Alliance Francaise celebrating Euro-American friendship  during the month of May with cultural, social, and educational events.

 

croatie drapeauCroatian European corner – Friday, May 9th at 2.00 pm – French Market. Chef Michael DeVidts of New Orleans School of Cooking will demonstrate Croatian Bean Soup: Grah I Varivah.  Samples will be offered and a complimentary pair of tickets to NOSOC for a cooking demonstration class will be raffled off to attendees. Event is free.

 

espagne drapeauSpanish European corner – Saturday, May 10th at 2.00 pm – French Market. Casa de España will be preparing some ‘salmorejo’ and ‘tortilla de patata’ served with Spanish style bread. Live music by Javier Gutiérrez of Vivaz (vivazmusic.com). Event is free.

 

Triplette de Belleville-PosterOutdoor movie : The Triplets of Belleville – Thursday, May 22th at 7.30 pm– at the Latter Library

7.30 pm : Live Music by Kevin Muggivan and his irish band

8.00 pm : Screening : The Triplets of Belleville, film by Sylvain Chomet, 2003.

When her grandson is kidnapped during the Tour de France, Madame Souza and her beloved pooch Bruno team up with the Belleville Sisters–an aged song-and-dance team from the days of Fred Astaire–to rescue him. An international co-production among companies in France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Canada. 1h18min

austria-flagAustrian European corner - Sunday, May 11th at 2.00 pm – French Market. Austrian cooking demonstration by Chef Liz Gober of Soulbred Kitchen. She will be creating one of the flagship Austrian dishes, Weiner Schnitzel, an authentic austrian dish that has had an interesting journey through American cuisine. Event is free.

 

Metropolis PosterOutdoor movie : Metropolis – Friday, May 16th at 8.00 pm – at the Old US Mint

Silent movie by Fritz Lang, 1927. Germany. 2h25min. Accompanied by european live music.

The film is set in the year 2026, in the extraordinary Gothic skyscrapers of a corporate city-state, the Metropolis of the title. Society has been divided into two rigid groups: one of planners or thinkers, who live in luxury on the surface of Earth, and another of workers who live underground toiling to sustain the lives of the privileged up above.
